im running one of your pumps and a quickfuel regulater on e-85  the motor is a 468 BBC making a little over 700hp do you think i need an idle bleed for my regulater evan though it gets alot of cool air because the dragster im running the motor in is all open.  also what size fuel line should i run. I  have a single 1050 quickfuel  e-85 dominator.  Also how thick should the spacer be in between the block and the pump was i suppose to get one with the pump.  Would a regular block off plate work?

Mike,
You probably won't need the idle bleed on your dragster....but, if you have a fuel system issue on a very hot day you will know how to solve it.

The spacer that goes between the block and the pump on the big block Chevy is machined from a phenolic insulating material. The earlier pumps use a 1/2" spacer, the later pumps use a 1/4" spacer. The later pumps can be identified by the really neat machining on the face to lighten the pump.

Mike,

You will need a -10 inlet for 700 horsepower with E85.

You can use a -8 inlet on gasoline for up to 750 horsepower. E85 requires about 30% more fuel than gasoline, so the larger inlet line is a must.

ok so i took my dragster out a couple weeks ago and made some runs and it was running great the fuel pump was working excellent. Then i took it out this past week and the motor started missing down the track is this the sign of vapor lock i do not have an idle bleed on my E-85 regulator.  I tried different timming, carb jetting, and went through the heads and everything checks out ok so could the missing be caused from me getting vapor lock. i noticed the missing gets worse when the engine is hotter.

Mike,

I'm not sure, but any alcohol engine were the performance problems intensify with heat.....is very likely vapor lock/hot fuel issues.

From experience, I know there are no negatives to having an idle bleed. Trouble shooting is all about "checking stuff off the list"....so you really need to install the idle bleed and "check it off the list".

Willy Krup of Willy's Carburetion sells a simple kit that allows you to verify the ethanol to gasoline ratio of E85.

Bill Hendren of Hendren's Racing Engines has found E85 purchased at gas stations to be as little as 10% ethanol and as high as 90%.
